Tamirah Augustin, 18, began the school year at North Gardens High School feeling uncertain and overwhelmed as a recent immigrant with limited English skills. Adjusting to a new environment while navigating language barriers made school challenging, but Tamirah remained determined to succeed.
With support from the RYIP program and her Success Coach, she stayed committed to her education, worked to strengthen her English skills, and continued pushing forward despite the difficulties she faced.
Today, Tamirah has earned 21.5 out of the 24 credits required for graduation and is on track to graduate in June 2026. Her journey is a powerful example of perseverance, resilience, and the impact that support and opportunity can have on a young person’s future.
Tamirah hopes to pursue a career in nursing and plans to gain professional experience through summer employment as she continues preparing for her future.
